VitiNet accepted for presentation at IECAG 2025

VitiAlert – An open-set framework for OOD-robust grape leaf disease classification
We’re excited to share that our research behind VitiAlert has been recognised by the scientific community. Our abstract “VitiNet – An open-set framework for OOD-robust grape leaf disease classification” has been accepted for presentation at the 5th International Electronic Conference on Agronomy (IECAG2025), under the Precision and Digital Agriculture section.
This conference brings together leading researchers and innovators shaping the future of agronomy, and we are honoured to contribute with our work on AI-driven vine-health.
What this means for growers and partners
The acceptance of our work highlights the scientific foundation behind the tools we are building at WSL.
VitiNet – the deep learning architecture powering VitiAlert – was designed specifically to address one of the biggest challenges in real-world vineyard AI: out-of-distribution robustness.
In practical terms, this means:
- more reliable preliminary leaf assessments under diverse field conditions
- improved ability to distinguish between known diseases, nutrient issues, and unknowns anomalies
- better scalability across regions, varieties and climates
- technology rigorously developed through competitive HPC Access (MareNostrum5, BSC, EuroHPC JU).
Next phase: learning from the field
With VitiAlert now in grower’s hands, we are preparing the next major training cycle of VitiNet by incorporating real-world vineyard images. We aim to improve accuracy, robustness and generalisation, bridging the gap between controlled research datasets and the diversity of real vineyards.

Thank you the community
We are grateful to every grower, advisor, and researcher who has tested VitiAlert, shared feedback and supported our mission.
